AJ Francis explained the difference in how WWE and TNA present their wrestlers.
The former TNA Digital Media Champion was fired by the WWE (twice, as Joe Hendry kindly pointed out) before joining TNA. He found new life in the company and has gone on the most impressive run of his career so far.
AJ Francis spoke with Drop The Heat about the difference in how WWE and TNA treat their talent. He explained how TNA give talent more time to impress in front of the camera. He explained that he didn’t suddenly get better in TNA, but was given more of a chance to shine.
“It’s not that they don’t want you to be yourself—it’s just that sometimes they don’t give people the time they need. You know what I’m saying? A lot of times, young talent just needs to be in front of the camera. I didn’t suddenly become a better wrestler or a better promo in the last year. But now, all people talk about is how good I am at both because they’re actually seeing me do both.”
“When I was in WWE, the longest singles match I had was three minutes. At TNA, I got to be a co-main event of Slammiversary with PCO, and we tore the house down. So, it’s like—you get what you give people. And now that TNA has given me an opportunity, I’ve shown that I’m one of the best in the business.”
AJ Francis: The Wrestling Business Is About Who You Know
“I tell people this all the time—people ask me at every show I go to. The fact of the matter is, the wrestling business is all about who you know. It’s about who will vouch for you. At the end of the day, nobody vouched for me when I was in WWE; I wasn’t anyone’s guy that they’d stand up for. But now, Tommy Dreamer vouches for me, and you see the opportunities that come with that.
“It’s all about who you know and finding the right person to like you. It’s not about the flips you can do, or even the matches themselves. Like I said, I didn’t just suddenly become good at promos, you know? It’s just that now I get the chance to cut a promo. It’s all about finding the right people.”
