AJ Styles had his Mark Henry moment.
AJ Styles teased his retirement on the May 31 episode of WWE SmackDown, as he admitted that he did not have enough time to earn another shot at the world title following his loss to reigning champion Cody Rhodes at WWE Backlash France.
After noting that it might be time for him to focus on his family, he shared an emotional moment with Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, his longtime stablemates. Styles went on to call out Rhodes and highlighted how their match at WWE Backlash France would be a good final bout for him. “The Phenomenal One” said that SmackDown was still the house that AJ Styles built, but he was handing him the keys.
Rhodes expressed his gratitude and appreciation for Styles, and they embraced. The two stars celebrated, but Styles suddenly turned on Rhodes. He attacked the champion and punctuated the beatdown with a Styles Clash off the steel steps.
