The Registrar of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State, Dr Jadesola Babatola, has called on university administrators across the country to adopt digitalisation in their administrative processes, stressing that it would enhance job efficiency, curb admission fraud, and position institutions for global ranking and recognition.

Babatola made the call during a workshop organised by the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he presented a paper on the benefits of digital transformation in university administration.

According to him, the introduction of digitalisation into administrative activities is a crucial step toward replacing outdated manual systems that have long hindered efficiency.

He noted that processes such as student registration, result processing, staff welfare, and financial management would be significantly improved through digital means.

He said, “Digitalisation has redesigned communication processes for work and learning, allowing for hybrid modes from the comfort of home when the office or classroom is difficult to reach.

“With proper data infrastructure and cybersecurity, administrative tasks can now be executed more effectively.”

Babatola also highlighted the impact of digital transformation since the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that it has fostered an environment conducive to skill acquisition in secretarial services, information management, and data science.

These, he said, are essential in promoting good governance and enhancing administrative operations in universities.

“Digitalisation simplifies secretarial work and academic processes, giving exposure to scholars’ research through online platforms.

“It facilitates the creation of new ideas, supports faster dissemination of knowledge, and places institutions on the global map for easy access and communication,” he added.

While acknowledging the limitations of digital technologies in administrative processes, Babatola urged institutions to develop comprehensive digital policies, invest in staff training, and improve digital literacy to overcome the challenges.

He maintained that digitalisation is the way forward for universities looking to improve their operational efficiency and achieve global competitiveness.
