Alan Pardew says Eddie Howe is by far the ‘most obvious’ candidate for the England job.

The FA having now advertised the post and anybody interested needs to apply by the Friday 2 August deadline.

Alan Pardew says ‘it is a really tricky one’ when you are a Premier League manager getting pushed for the England job, claiming that he found himself in this position back when he was in a job.

It is only 25 days now until Newcastle United kick off their Premier League season and Alan Pardew claims that whilst Eddie Howe has indicated in a number of interviews that he isn’t interested in leaving St James’ Park and joining England, the reality (according to Pardew) is that the NUFC Head Coach actually is interested in managing the national team.

Alan Pardew speaking to Talksport:

“A couple of times in my career it (the England job) was mentioned to me.

“It is a really tricky one.

“Particularly if you are a manager in the Premier League.

“As you have employers and you don’t want to upset them or unsettle them, by putting your name forward.

“Although privately, you kind of say yes you’re interested, or whatever.

“The media are all over it, reading between the lines and the words, or putting words in.

“If you are an Englishman, of course you’d be interested [in the England job].

“Eddie Howe has already made his comments this week and he has more or less said he’s not interested.

“But really I think he is.

“Where we are right now, the most obvious candidate is Eddie Howe, because he has done a great job at Newcastle and done well [overall] in his managerial career.

“And he probably has a philosophy that will fit, in terms of taking us somewhere different to Gareth [Southgate].

“He is a little bit more assertive in his style.

“Eddie Howe ticks all the boxes.”
