Alberto Del Rio wishes that WWE would get him back for a final run.

The Mexican star left the WWE in 2016, ending his second run in the company. He has been laden with controversy ever since, including being charged with kidnapping and sexual assault.

Alberto Del Rio spoke with Sportskeeda Wrestlebinge, where he was asked about the chances of him returning to the WWE. The former WWE Champion replied that he doesn’t know if he is still in good standing with WWE, following Vince McMahon‘s exit earlier this year.

However, Del Rio noted that he would love to come back for one last run. He named stars like CM Punk, John Cena and Rey Mysterio as talents he’d like to face one more time.

“Some years ago, the last time you and I talked, I said yes. Because I was always on good terms with the man [Vince McMahon]. But the man is not there anymore. So I don’t know how it is today with the people running the company now.”

“I know they know what I’ve been doing all these years, especially over the past 16 months. And I’m hoping that after seeing the best version of Alberto Del Rio. I’m in a fantastic place and moment right now—after all that hard work, they decide one day to make the call.”

“I would be lying if I said it wasn’t my biggest dream to go back there and have one last run, and finally retire. I want to hang my boots after a match in WWE, against one of my favorite wrestlers. Whoever it is: Punk, Cena, Rey Mysterio, Big Show, or even Ziggler. It doesn’t matter who it is giving me that last match. But I would love for that to happen in WWE.”

It remains to be seen if Alberto gets his wish, but at least one of those matches is not likely, as Dolph Ziggler was released by WWE in 2023. He now has a prominent role in TNA as the company’s world champion under his real name, Nic Nemeth.
