Alexander Isak played in the 3-1 defeat at Fulham.
However, he was missing from the matchday squads for both the Manchester City and AFC Wimbledon matches.
Eddie Howe revealing that Alexander Isak had broken his toe and had needed an injection to be able to play at Craven Cottage.
However, he was also at pains to stress that saying he had broken his toe made it sound far worse than was the reality, the fracture only a minor one according to the NUFC Head Coach.
Eddie Howe appearing to suggest that it was a case of resting and not playing matches, to allow it to settle down, rather than a long-term absence.
Former Newcastle United striker Jon Dahl Tomasson has now left Alexander Isak out of the Sweden squad for October’s Nations League games. Though Emil Krafth is named.
Sweden having away games over in Slovakia on Friday 11 October and in Estonia on Monday 14 October.
Jon Dahl Tomasson now giving this update on Alexander Isak, information for Sweden football fans and indeed, Newcastle United fans:
“One of the best forwards in the world is missing [for the matches in October]
“He is really disappointed not to be able to contribute and help the team.
“However, he is not ready to perform due to injury, but I am sure he will come back in November and help us.”
With all these daft international breaks, it is actually only 44 and 47 days respectively, until Sweden have their November home games in the Nations League against Slovakia and Azerbaijan.
I think the update from Jon Dahl Tomasson on Alexander Isak is a bit of good news/bad news one for Newcastle United fans.
If Alexander Isak isn’t heading off with Sweden, then I think we can take for granted the striker won’t be involved at Everton on Saturday.
However, with the Sweden boss seemingly very confident that Alexander Isak will be ok for those November matches only six weeks away. I think every reason to hope/expect that Isak will be back for the Brighton home match on Saturday 19 October. That would have given him four weeks rest and recovery since the Fulham match, with actually five weeks since he broke the toe against Wolves.
Newcastle United have five matches in three weeks, stretching from Brighton on the 19 October, to Forest away on Sunday 10 November, before then that third international break of three months in a row.
Needless to say, great if we have Alexander Isak back for most/all of those game. Whilst Callum Wilson is now set to join full training and hopefully will also be available after the October internationals.
