Alexander Isak has reflected on Newcastle’s start to the season.

The striker getting his first goal of the season on Sunday.

That match winner means Alexander Isak and Newcastle United have three wins and a draw in their opening four games of the season.

However, when speaking to Swedish media (see below), Alexander Isak says that whilst the defending and commitment has been impressive so far, he admits that in terms of attacking and in possession, United have a long way to go to get back to their normal levels.

Alexander Isak and Sweden face two Nations League matches, Azerbaijan away from home on Thursday and then home to Estonia on Sunday.

Alexander Isak speaking to Viaplay, after four Newcastle United matches played before this international break :

“I think our performance is a bit short of the level we want it to be at.

“I think that we defend our goal very well.

“We almost refused to lose [against Tottenham].

“With the ball, we are quite far from our [normal] level.

“However, it is a statement of strength to win [against Tottenham] when not everything is so pretty.

“The team and I want to do a little better with the ball and performance in general.

“However, we won [against Tottenham] and I scored my first goal, so it’s clear that I leave [to join up with Sweden] with a good feeling.”
