Alexander Nübel to be promoted to Germany’s number 1 goalkeeper

It only takes a combination of events for the unexpected to happen. Often criticized during his two years at Monaco (2021-2023), Alexander Nübel was able to get back in the saddle with Stuttgart, with whom he won a place in the Champions League last season (the Swabians finished 2nd in the Bundesliga).

In recent months, his form has been rewarded, since the coach of the Nationalmannschaft, Julian Nagelsmann, called him up for the last training session before the Euro, and again in September. During the next international break which will take place in about ten days, the 27-year-old goalkeeper should even be promoted to number 1 goalkeeper, at least as an interim. This promotion is explained by the recent retirement of Manuel Neuer, but especially by the serious knee injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen last weekend. According to BILDOliver Baumman, who had been preferred to him at the Euro as third goalkeeper, will now be his understudy.
