Fifth Harmony is one of the biggest girl groups in recent memory, but they don’t get paid like it.

Saturday (July 27) marked the 12th anniversary of the girl group – comprised of Camila Cabello, Lauren Jauregui, Normani, Ally Brooke and Dinah Jane – being formed on The X Factor in 2012.

The group went on to conquer the world with hits like “Work From Home,” and “Worth It.” The former is approaching 1.5 billion streams on Spotify.

Of course, Camila left the group in 2016. While the remaining members continued as a quartet for a few years, they have since embarked upon a hiatus. Rumors of a reunion continue to follow the group, but nothing is in the cards just yet.

Although their discography is full of hits, you might be surprised by how much the members are paid for their music. Last year, Ally opened up about the specifics during an interview, and she said it was “criminal.”

“We literally have billions of streams. But, unfortunately, we don’t get anything off of streams,” Ally explained during an October 2023 appearance on the Zach Sang Show. “But, thank god for Sound Exchange. Sound Exchange is amazing. That we get like about $5,000 a month,” she said, clarifying that it’s what each member made.

She continued, saying, “But, that had gone away now and we’re not sure why. So it’s crazy. It’s messed up. It’s not what you think.”

She described the situation as “criminal.”

Elsewhere, Ally said that she and the rest of the girls “barely walked away with anything,” noting that the members of One Direction was rumored to have each made $60 million a piece. (See which member of the boy band is worth the most)

On the bright side, the girls do have their trademark, which gives them more freedom moving forward. She clarified that it was just the four remaining members of the group – herself, Dinah, Lauren and Normani - that owned the trademark.
