Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti will be without most of his first-team squad for the match against AC Milan as his stars return to pre-season training in small groups.
Madrid will, however, be without Kylian Mbappé and David Alaba for their entire pre-season tour.
The former will join the team’s training upon his return from the United States, and Antonio Rudiger will join the team in the United States, as will Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Junior. Deprived of some of its stars, the Spanish team is struggling to sell out its first friendly against AC Milan, while tickets are already sold out for the Clasico which will take place a few days later.
Real Madrid don’t have a full house
Brazilian sensation Endrick Felipe, who was presented to the fans on Saturday, will be present. The 18-year-old rushed his return to join the squad for their pre-season tour. However, Diario AS also report that Endrick will not get much game time during the pre-season tour, and that Ancelotti wants to see him gradually, mainly in training. He wants to avoid a case like Vitor Roque at Barcelona, where the 19-year-old’s start was difficult, and it now appears that he is set to leave the club this summer.
Similarly, Ancelotti has to make decisions in defence. With David Alaba out and Jesus Vallejo suffering from muscle discomfort, youngsters Jacobo Ramon, Raul Asencio and Joan Martinez have been brought into the squad and could be given a chance. The latter, aged just 16, had to be accompanied by a guardian and obtained special permission from his parents to make the trip.
FC Barcelona and Real Madrid start their pre-season campaigns without many first-team resources. It will be interesting to see if this will impact their start to the season, with both teams starting with tricky away games at Valencia and RCD Mallorca respectively.
