For Gisele and Alyssa Thompson, they’re the fourth edition of soccer sisters in the NWSL. Like duos such as Sam and Kristie Mewis, Katie and Maegan Kelly, and Sydney and Sinclaire Miramontez, the Thompson sisters have another unique layer to their relationship as the teenagers made league history as the first sisters to appear for the same NWSL team.
Historic NIL deal, Netflix cameo, and life as a pro
The Thompson sisters have paved the way for a new generation of youth soccer players as the pair became the first high school athletes to sign Nike name, image and likeness (NIL) contracts in 2022. As Alyssa marked the first professional signing in the NWSL as a high schooler, Gisele followed suit as she also signed with the club.
From being teammates as kids to playing with Santa Clarita Blue Heat, the Thompson sisters earned their first cameo in the Netflix film, ‘Family Switch,’ featuring Angel City investor and team soccer mom, Jennifer Garner. In the film, the camera pans to the duo at BMO Stadium, who are featured as the ‘Switchblade Sisters.’
