Amadou Onana says it was a ‘bit of everything’ that tempted him to sign for Aston Villa, crediting manager Unai Emery’s ability to take his game to the next level and his style of play, among other reasons.

The 22-year-old has completed a £50m move to Villa Park from Everton after two seasons in the Premier League with the Toffees.

The Belgium international was linked with a number of clubs before the switch to Villa, including the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal, but he said a string of things made the Villains an appealing option.

‘It was a bit of everything. There’s a healthy atmosphere here to grow as a player and as a man,’ said Onana.

‘The team played very attractive football last season with loads of goals and will now be playing in the Champions League.

‘I’ll be playing in the Champions League again and that’s very exciting. We also have a manager that’s one of the best in the business and I think he can take my game to the next level.’

There was also the appeal of international teammate Youri Tielemans already being at the club and selling Aston Villa to the midfielder.

‘Youri played a big part in me being here because he told me lots of good stuff about the club,’ said the new signing.

‘He’s someone I’m used to playing with in the national team, so I’m looking forward to training with him on a daily basis.

‘He’s someone who’s got the experience to help and guide me throughout the whole process.’

Onana arrives as a replacement for Douglas Luiz, who moved to Juventus in a £42.35m deal earlier in the summer.

Ian Maatsen was also unveiled as a new arrival at Villa Park on Monday, with the left-back joining from Chelsea for £37.5m.
