Amazon MGM Studios Lands Package ‘American Speed’ Starring Tom Holland And Austin Butler

EXCLUSIVE: Following a highly competitive auction, Amazon MGM Studios has landed American Speed, a package with Tom Holland and Austin Butler attached to star. Academy Award-winning producer Charles Roven (Oppenheimer) is attached to produce via his Atlas Entertainment banner alongside RD Whittington and Douglas Banker. Atlas Entertainment’s Ryan Sanak will executive produce. 

Dan Wiedenhaupt is writing the script, which is based on the true story of the Whittington brothers—three historically famous racecar drivers, two of whom were part of the 1980s IMSA scandal, in which a number of drivers were charged with financing their racing activities with proceeds from drug smuggling, money laundering or tax evasion.

Holland has had himself a week prior to this news with the next installment in his Spider-Man franchise officially announcing Destin Daniel Cretton will come on as director and the film claiming a July 2026 release date. On top of that, he also signed on to co-star opposite Matt Damon in Christopher Nolan’s next event film.

Butler has had himself quite the 2024 that began with his scene-stealing role opposite Timothee Chalamet in Dune Part 2. He followed that up starring in Bike Riders opposite Tom Hardy. On the TV side, he the Apple TV+ event series Masters of the Air. He is currently filming the Darren Aronofsky thriller Caught Stealing.

Wiedenhaupt most recently penned the Albert Hughes action pic Alpha.

Roven also serves as a producer on the sci-fi thriller Mercy, starring Chris Pratt, which Amazon MGM Studios is releasing in theaters worldwide on August 15, 2025.
