One Manchester United star is garnering interest that may prove too lucrative to turn down – especially given the Red Devils are unlikely to be playing European football next season.

Indeed, Diogo Dalot is believed to have two established admirers keeping tabs on his performances in the form of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

That’s according to TeamTalk, which states: “What has particularly impressed Bayern boss Vincent Kompany, along with Real, is Dalot’s consistency and adaptability – which have made him a target for top European clubs.”

The 27-capped Portugal international has often divided opinions among the Old Trafford faithful, primarily because even when he has found form in the odd match, it hasn’t continued over an extended period of time.

What’s often set him aside from his teammates is his availability; he, along with Bruno Fernandes, have been available season-round in recent years, which has been vital when navigating detrimental injury crisises. Dalot last missed a game through a fitness setback in February 2023 and, prior to that, his most recent layoff dates all the way back to 2019.

Yet, if there are still doubts over a player’s suitability to the squad seven years into his tenure, is he really the one to occupy the position long-term? Especially if a substantial fee could be recuperated from his exit.

Why United may look to cling onto Dalot

On the other hand, when hailing Dalot as United’s ‘unsung hero’ of the 2023/2024 term, BBC Sport’s Josh Lobley penned: “The right-back has had the best campaign of his career. He earned a nomination for the Premier League team of the season and the 118 tackles and interceptions he made were only bettered by four defenders in the entire division.

“According to Fbref, Dalot has not made an error (defined as a mistake leading to an opponent’s shot) in all of 2023-24. The same cannot be said for fellow defenders Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and Willy Kambwala, who have all made errors in significantly fewer minutes than the Portuguese. It is fair to say that he has been one of, if not the most reliable player in a red shirt this season.”
