Manchester United are expected to confirm the appointment of Ruben Amorim as Erik ten Hag’s long-term successor before the weekend.

After three days of continuous negotiations between all parties, it looks as though it’s now just a case of crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s of Amorim’s two-year contract at Old Trafford.

He – and the United faithful – will have to wait just under a month before he can officially take to the dugout for a fixture, as he has agreed to complete a notice period with Sporting Lisbon until the mid-November international break – meaning Amorim will come toe-to-toe with soon-to-be rival manager Pep Guardiola when his side host Manchester City on Tuesday evening in the Champions League.

That won’t stop him from drawing up plans on how he wants his squad to look in the near future, though. The current crop of players is largely occupied by Erik ten Hag’s signings, and there are certainly a few that would never have been green-lit by Amorim – or INEOS if they were in charge at the time (hint: Antony).

According to GiveMeSport, the 39-year-old is ‘urgently’ eyeing a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ fullback Rayan Ait-Nouri, with United having now seemingly accepted that they simply cannot rely on Luke Shaw anymore

He has just suffered a further setback in his recovery from a calf injury that he sustained at Carrington after returning from the Euros, yet he hasn’t featured at club level for almost nine months.

Ait-Nouri, 23, has been hailed as an ‘incredible talent’ by his manager Gary O’Neil, making it no surprise that Liverpool have also shortlisted the Algerian while searching for a suitable Andy Robertson replacement.

Towards the end of last season, Wolves placed a whopping £60 million price tag on their star defender, whose contract at the Molineux runs until June 2026.
