With Ruben Amorim’s job coming under heavy scrutiny, Unai Emery has reportedly emerged as a potential replacement.

The Portuguese tactician was only appointed in November when Erik ten Hag was shown the door following a miserable start to the campaign. However, the Portuguese hasn’t been able to improve the team’s status in the league. The Red Devils currently reside in horrific 14th place in the Premier League table.

Therefore, despite being new on the block, Amorim could be facing the sack already, something he admitted himself on a few occasions.

In recent week, Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez was suggested as the frontrunner to fill in for the 40-year-old. The 2010 World Cup winner has been on the shelf since leaving the Blaugrana at the end of last season. Nevertheless, a new report from Spain drops the name of another Spanish tactician.

According to Fichajes.net, United are ‘showing interest’ in Emery who has been delivering the goods at Aston Villa since 2022. The 53-year-old has already accumulated valuable experience on the European stage. He already had tenures at Sevilla, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Villarreal, winning several trophies and achieving solid results more often than not.

In his current spell in Birmingham, the Spaniard led Aston Villa towards a historic qualification for the Champions League last season. The Villains have also been one of the most impressive sides in Europe’s elite club competition this season, finishing amongst the Top 8 in the group to earn direct access to the Round of 16.

While this remains a mere theory for now, Emery’s arrival would likely spark Marcus Rashford’s return to Carrington. The striker was pushed out of the door by Amorim who omitted him from the squad which prompted a loan move with an option to buy at the end of the season for £40 million.

The Englishman has been enjoying a great revival under the Spanish manager, so the latter would certainly push for a reunion in Manchester.
