A former governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has used the auspicious occasion of his 67th birthday to rally support for the less privileged in the country.

Amosun said such thoughtful initiative encourages inclusiveness, fosters love and brightens people’s hope.

The former governor disclosed this while presenting bags of rice and cash gifts to inmates of correctional centres across the state to mark his 67th birthday.

A statement issued on Sunday by his media aide, Lanre Akinwale, said other beneficiaries of Amosun’s gesture included children of the Borstal Institutions, Adigbe, Daniel Akintonde School for the Physically Challenged as well as Stella Obasanjo Children’s Home, all in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Represented by Alhaji Bola Adeyemi, Amosun said, “Birthday is a special time of sober reflection, a time to further appreciate the Almighty God for his benevolence and gift of life.

“And as part of the 67th birthday celebrations of Sen Ibikunle Amosun, in his usual character, he has commanded that these food items should be distributed to the inmates of the correctional centres across the state and some other identified less privileged.

“Sen Amosun believes that the less privileged deserve the love and support of all for a better society.”

Meanwhile, associates, family members and loyalists of Amosun, including the immediate past Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Isola attended the interfaith service held at the Ibara GRA residence of the former governor.

In their separate sermons, Rev. Julius Ogunseye of the African Church and Imam Bashir Ibrahim of Unity Central Mosque admonished the people not to lose faith in God no matter the circumstances.

They urged people to emulate Amosun who always exhibits the virtues of fear of God and love for people.

They eulogised Amosun for his virtues of kindness, charity and humanitarian gesture, and prayed to God to grant him long life, good health and abundant blessings.
