After Manchester United’s 1-0 FA Cup victory against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, Erik ten Hag gave himself some breathing room.
Tim Sherwood believes the Dutchman won’t remain at the club next season, despite that victory and the opportunity to still win a trophy this season.
He has urged Manchester United to appoint Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi as their next manager.
The former manager of Tottenham and Aston Villa believes Roberto De Zerbi is a “nuisance” and that “people would be scared of,” according to what he said on talkSPORT.
Sherwood has advised people at Old Trafford to choose 44-year-old Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager, since the manager is expected to be in great demand and Liverpool are considering him as one of their options to succeed Jurgen Klopp.
“De Zerbi is one of my favourite managers,” said Sherwood. “He looks like he can be an absolute nuisance.
“That’s the biggest compliment I can give him because De Zerbi looks like he could drive me potty. He would want this and he would want that. That’s why people would be scared of him. But I think he is top draw.
“The style of play and the structure. Brighton are brilliant. It won’t mind them, they will just get the next one in, like they do with their players.
“I think the state with Man United, at the moment, I don’t see ten Hag staying, I really don’t. I think De Zerbi would be an absolute dream manager for them.”
With the Manchester derby coming at the weekend, a defeat in that match could put ten Hag under more pressure.
A loss would make it more difficult for the team to qualify for the Champions League, and as has previously occurred with ten Hag, it would raise more questions about the manager’s long-term prospects.
