A chieftain and former National Auditor of the All Progressives Congress, Paul Chukwuma, has declared his intention to run for the 2025 governorship election in Anambra State under the APC platform.
Chukwuma outlined his aspirations during a media parley in his hometown, Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area, on Saturday.
He emphasised his commitment to addressing insecurity, infrastructural challenges, unemployment, and other socio-economic issues affecting the state and its people.
Chukwuma, who is also the Pro-Chancellor of Olivia University, Burundi, stated that as an expert in business and economics, he would apply his expertise to ensure that Anambra’s resources are efficiently managed and utilised for the benefit of the people.
According to him, it is time for Anambra to align with the APC-led Federal Government to foster development in key areas, including roads, railways, gas pipelines, and ports, which would serve as a foundation for the state’s next phase of progress.
He said, “Security and massive infrastructure development will be my top priorities as governor. I will ensure a state where everyone can sleep peacefully. Security is the bedrock of development—no state can thrive without it.
“No investor would risk investing in a state where security is not guaranteed, which is why many of our people are hesitant to come home and invest. The current security situation in Anambra is alarming and demands urgent action.
This does not require rocket science but the implementation of the right measures and manpower.”
Chukwuma pledged to run an all-inclusive government that delivers dividends of democracy to every Anambra citizen.
He also vowed to be accessible, listen to the people, and prioritise qualitative education for all residents, regardless of their affiliations.
Raising concerns about the poor state of schools, particularly in rural areas, he noted that students are struggling to learn due to dilapidated infrastructure. He promised to make massive infrastructural development a key focus of his administration.
“My government will focus on qualitative education, food security, a conducive environment for local and foreign investors, job creation, tackling insecurity, and connecting Anambra to the centre through the APC platform,” he said.
Chukwuma highlighted two critical factors for sustainable growth—human capital development and infrastructure—stating that while Anambra has progressed in human capital development, it remains deficient in infrastructure, which is hindering sustainable growth.
He criticised the current administration under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), stating that the lack of collaboration with the Federal Government has left Anambra underdeveloped.
“We need to redeem Anambra fast because the current administration has failed the people. Infrastructure is in disrepair, and security has collapsed.
“What the current governor could not achieve in four years, he will not accomplish in eight. You don’t need eight years to develop Anambra. My government will not be a one-man show. I urge the media and the people to support my ambition so we can collectively address these challenges,” he added.
