Deserted street of Abia State over IPOB sit-at-home-order.
The personnel of the Police Command in Anambra, on Monday, patrolled the streets and major roads in the state as an intensified effort towards tackling the Monday sit-at-home across the state.
The team, comprising of police and other security forces was led by the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu.
Speaking to journalists during the exercise, Orutugu hails Anambra residents for joining voices to condemn the sit-at-home, and urge them to raise their voice against any act that threatens national unity.
He said the goal is to deter criminal activities, build trust with the community and provide a secure atmosphere for economic and social growth to thrive.
He said, “This is an effort to demonstrate commitment to end sit-at-home with a massive deployment of security personnel to different strategic and identified areas as Police and other security forces intensified patrols toward security dominance in the state.
“The goal is to deter criminal activities, build trust with the community, and provide a secure atmosphere for economic and social growth.
“We hail Ndi Anambra and the state government through the launch of ‘Operation Udo-Ga-Chi’ by collectively joining voices to condemn any act that threatens national peace.
“We have resolved to explore every necessary legal strategy and to constantly review both kinetic and non-kinetic steps taken towards stabilising the security of the state.”
According to him, this enhanced security presence involves increased patrols and surveillance, strategic deployment of personnel and resources, intelligence gathering and community engagement, proactive measures to prevent and respond timely to crimes.
Despite the patrol, our correspondent observed that markets, schools, motor parks, banks, petrol stations, law courts, and other public facilities remained closed, while major roads across the state were largely deserted across major cities such as Onitsha, Nnewi and some parts of Awka as residents stayed indoors as usual on Mondays.
