Over time, the state has been embroiled in several attacks, thereby increasing insecurity concerns.
In early October 2024, two police operatives were killed by unidentified gunmen in Uruagu, a community in Nnewi North LG of the state, as the officers were on investigation duties.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants launched a surprise attack on the police officers, leading to a fierce gun battle.
The attackers reportedly hurled an Improvised Explosive Device at the police team, which exploded, killing two officers instantly.
Also, the House of Representatives on Tuesday urged the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Oluwatosin Ajayi, to bring to book those who killed seven persons in the state.
Hoodlums suspected to be cultists, last week, invaded Ifite-Awka, near the school gate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, killing no fewer than seven persons.
According to eyewitnesses, the gun-wielding hoodlums invaded the vicinity in the early hours of Thursday, October 24, 2024, and opened fire on some persons suspected to be members of another rival cult group, thereby causing chaos and panic in the area.
