It goes from bad to worse for Andre Onana and Cameroon.
After losing to Africa Cup of Nations holders Senegal, Cameroon have just one point from their opening two matches. They are currently placed third in the group after two matches.
Guinea took on Gambia in their second group stage match and won 1-0, meaning they keep their place in second on four points. It also means that Cameroon have catching up to do to avoid elimination from the competition.
In turn, that means Onana will return to Manchester United sooner than expected.
United’s first choice keeper returned to the Cameroon starting line-up for Friday’s game against Senegal after missing the first game, a 1-1 draw vs Guinea, despite arriving at the stadium three hours before kick-off.
Ismalia Sarr opened the scoring tonight before Habibou Mouhamadou Diallo made it 2-0 in Senegal’s favour.
However, Jean-Charles Castelletto pulled one back for Cameroon before Sadio Mane scored Senegal’s third and final goal of the evening.
If Cameroon crash out of the group stages, Onana could return in time for United’s Premier League clash against Wolves.
