Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole does not believe the club needs to sign a new left-back in the summer, despite Luke Shaw’s concerning injury record.

Shaw was ruled out last extend and runs the risk of missing the remainder of the season after sustaining a muscle injury.

As a result, United are without a recognised left-back, with Tyrell Malacia still recovering from injury.

A number of fans feel that it may be time to target a new left-back. And, you can’t blame them with the amount of football Shaw has missed this season while his back-up hasn’t been seen since last term.

Cole doesn’t think United need to sign a left-back. He told Betfred, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News: “No, I wouldn’t say that because injuries are part and parcel of football. Unfortunately, Luke has had his fair share of injuries and one nasty injury in particular.

“I think it’s unbelievable that he’s been able to come through that one. I don’t believe that United need to prioritise the signing of a left-back because when Luke is on song, he’s a very good player. I’ve seen people question whether he’s good enough to play for United, but we could be sitting here until tomorrow discussing who’s good enough to play for United and who’s not.”

United have one of the best left-backs in Europe, when fit, when it comes to Shaw.

But he’s only that when available and I think it will be something the club look at in the summer.
