Nicky Butt believes Angel Gomes would look a home in the Manchester City starting line-up.
One would hope that his United links will keep him away from City, especially when a return to Old Trafford would be a popular decision for the club to make.
Gomes may be available for free next summer unless the talented midfielder signs a new deal at Lille.
He created history when he became United’s youngest-ever Premier League player back in 2017 but he was eventually let go by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who couldn’t guarantee him regular football at the time.
After making his England debut in the Nations League recently, Gomes’ demand has increased in Europe and he has been linked with several Premier League clubs, including United.
Football Insider even linked Liverpool with interest in Gomes.
Speaking to PA news agency, the former United midfielder said (via Manchester Evening News): “I think he can do better than some of the teams that will be in for him in the Premier League.
“The Spanish league is written all over for Angel. He could play in the Premier League easily. He could play for City tomorrow. When Angel left United, I said to him, ‘You’re going to go on and have an unbelievable career and I wouldn’t be surprised if you end up playing against Manchester United for Barcelona or Real Madrid in the next five, six, seven years’, because he was that good.
“And I’m not just saying that now that he’s made his England debut, I genuinely thought that a long time ago. He could play in the Premier League easily. He could play for [Man] City tomorrow…”
