Angela Simmons is opening up about the moment her son learned about his father’s murder. She shared with Keke Palmer that Sutton Joseph Tennyson Jr. started questioning his dad’s passing at three years old.

Angela Details Speaking With Her Son About His Dad’s Murder
While on the ‘Baby This is Keke Palmer’ podcast, Angela noted that as her son grew older, he searched online and questioned why someone would take his dad’s life.
“He gets on the phone with me and he’s like ‘I don’t know why he’s not here, but why would somebody shoot him,'” Angela said while remembering a conversation she had with her son.
Although Sutton kept asking about the incident, Angela hesitated to share details, believing he was too young to understand. Sutton Joseph Tennyson Jr. is now eight. Furthermore, the entrepreneur told Keke that she felt hurt when her son learned information from the internet before she could tell him.
“I just hated that the internet told my son before I could tell him. I was so bothered because he got the story and narrative online before I could even like.. sit him down and have that conversation with him,” Angela continued.

Angela’s former fiancé, Sutton Tennyson, died in 2018 after being struck 13 times in a shooting. According to PEOPLE, Simmons’ son’s father was killed outside his garage in 2018 at the age of 37.
A few days later, Michael Williams turned himself into the police. He later faced charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm during a felony, and murder. Additionally, PEOPLE confirmed that in 2022, authorities sentenced Williams to life in prison. Per TMZ, he also received an added 15 years for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
At the time, Angela honored her son’s father by posting several photos on social media. The reality star conveyed her feelings of pain and numbness in response to the tragic situation. In 2022, Angela reacted to the court’s sentencing on Instagram by sharing a picture of Sutton with their son.
She reportedly wrote, “We got you! Justice was served today,” along with a red heart emoji.
