Anne Hathaway revealed she had a miscarriage before welcoming two sons with her husband, Adam Shulman.
The “Princess Diaries” star got candid about her fertility journey during an interview with Vanity Fair published Monday, revealing her loss occurred in 2015 amid her Off-Broadway play “Grounded.“
“The first time it didn’t work out for me,” she explained. “I was doing a play and I had to give birth onstage every night.”

“It was too much to keep it in when I was onstage pretending everything was fine,” she continued. “I had to keep it real otherwise.”
Reflecting on getting pregnant with her first son, the “Les Misérables” star seemingly hinted that she became empathetic toward others who struggled with fertility.
“So when it did go well for me, having been on the other side of it — where you have to have the grace to be happy for someone — I wanted to let my sisters know, ‘You don’t have to always be graceful. I see you and I’ve been you,” she added.

Showing off her baby bump in a mirror selfie, the actress wrote, “It’s not for a movie…#2.”
To avoid feeling “disingenuous” to those who experience fertility obstacles, she added, “All kidding aside, for everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies. Sending you extra love 💕.”
