Manchester United will face Liverpool this weekend in the FA Cup with a place in the semi-finals on the line.

This season has been horrendous for Manchester United and the pressure will mount on Erik ten Hag even more if they fail to beat Liverpool in the FA Cup this season.

The FA Cup represents United’s only shot at winning silverware this season due to early eliminations from both the Champions League and the League Cup.

Although under pressure to keep his job, Ten Hag is relishing the opportunity to face Liverpool in the latter stages of the FA Cup.

“Some games are bigger than others,” Ten Hag said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“United vs Liverpool is always a big game, especially in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. We are looking forward [to it].”

There will be more Liverpool fans at Old Trafford than usual due to cup competition allocations. The manager has called on the Old Trafford faithful to turn up the volume.

“They are very eager for us to win this. There are more Liverpool fans, so we need them to be really loud.”

The players, too, need to be at their best. United are facing a side that are challenging on all fronts this season – after winning the Carabao Cup – as they remain in the Europa League and Premier League title race as well as the FA Cup. Ten Hag has urged his players to be at their best to get the desired result.

“If you want to win, which we do, [you have to be good]. We need our best to beat them.”

Ten Hag added: “They are very consistent. They play good football, have very good performances and get very good results.”

Finally, Ten Hag was asked about whether United can use Sunday as a way to build some momentum, to which he replied: “On Sunday we have another good opportunity to get momentum. I think the players, the team, have shown lately since January onwards we have a lot of good games with a lot of wins. We feel the momentum. I think they have that belief, good confidence and good spirit.”
