FC Barcelona’s impressive scoring run has been a major talking point this season, especially following their recent 3-1 victory over Espanyol, which brought their total to an impressive 50 goals for the 2024/25 campaign.

This achievement marks the highest number of goals the club has recorded after 15 matches since the beginning of the century, and there is much more to explore regarding this remarkable performance.

During the match against Espanyol, Dani Olmo scored a stunning goal from outside the penalty area. This was notable because it was Barcelona’s ninth goal from long-range this season.

To put this into perspective, last season, the team scored a total of only 10 long-range goals throughout 53 matches.

Looking at the statistics, the contrast is striking. In the 2020/21 season, which was Lionel Messi’s last at the club, Barcelona netted 17 goals from outside the box, with Messi contributing to 10 of those.

The following season, 2021/22, saw a significant drop, with the team managing just eight long-range goals for the entire season. In the 2022/23 campaign, they only scored five goals from outside the box.

Last season continued this trend, with the team registering just 10 such goals. However, this season has seen a resurgence in this aspect of their game. Already, Barcelona have scored nine goals from outside the area, showcasing a newfound effectiveness.

Lamine Yamal has been particularly impressive, contributing three goals from long range. He is followed by Pablo Torre, who has scored two, while players like Pedri, Robert Lewandowski, Pau Victor, and Olmo have each found the net from outside the box once.

This shift in the team’s attacking style reflects a growing confidence and ability to strike from distance, enhancing their offensive threat as they continue their pursuit of success this season.
