Anthony Gordon won the Under 21 Euros 12 months ago with England.

The Newcastle United star also named player of the tournament last summer.

Finally, Anthony Gordon got a belated senior call-up in March 2024 and after impressing against both Brazil and Belgium, found himself in the 33 man preliminary squad for the 2024 euros and never in a doubt he would remain and be part of the final 26 man squad.

The England squad are now at their base in Germany and training ahead of Sunday’s opening group match against Serbia.

Anthony Gordon welcoming the quality of competition within the squad to try and get a place in the team, plus the fact that apart from Luke Shaw, it looks like all of the other 25 squad members will be available for selection:

“Luke Shaw is back in training now and doing really well.

“I did a bit of my rehab with him and he was far ahead of schedule. He was doing great, which is good.

“A few people have said it, where the [England] squad has never been so competitive, in terms of everyone is in form and everyone has come here in a really good place.

“There is definitely competition for places.

“Everyone is going to be at their best [in training] to try and play.

“Basecamp [at Luxury Spa and Golf Resort Weimarer Land] is unbelievable.

“We have everything we could ask for.

“We have absolutely everything and couldn’t have asked for anything better.

“It’s a great place to be because when you come away from home, away from family for so long… hopefully, you need that base to make it a home from home.

“We have definitely got that.”

With rumours that this could be Gareth Southgate’s final tournament with England, Anthony Gordon making it clear where he stands:

“From a selfish point of view, I would want Gareth Southgate to stay.

“I love working with him and his staff.

“From my youth journey with England and the way they have transitioned the whole set-up from youth to senior level, has been absolutely amazing.”
