The end of the week brought media claims on the Anthony Gordon contract situation.
Ahead of the season it had been widely reported that a priority for Newcastle United was to get both Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon to agree new extended deals.
Talks beginning for Newcastle United with Gordon’s representatives back in early August.
The end of this week then seeing finally seeing a breakthrough at last, according to the media. The two sides said to have been able to find an agreement and that official confirmation was thought to be imminent.
Ahead of the kick-off against Manchester City on Saturday, Anthony Gordon was asked about these media claims of a new Newcastle United extended contract set to be officially announced very soon:
“Yes, it is close.
“I am really excited [about this new Newcastle United contract].
“But we will focus on that when it comes.
“I am really excited about this [Manchester City] game and I just want to get that out of the way first.”
After a non-stop breathless quality performance and having won and scored the penalty that gave Newcastle United a very well deserved point, Anthony Gordon once again asked about these claims of a new NUFC contract set to be announced imminently:
“I didn’t need any persuading to stay here.
“I have been excited to sign the [new] contract for a long time.
“It shows my commitment to the club, which has never been in question.
“An amazing day.
“Best fans in the country and they carry us through games like that!
“Eddie Howe just said in the dressing room that he got a Newcastle United display there.”
