Anthony Greene is ready to make a great impression in MLW and hopes to leave Los Angeles with some gold around his waist.

“Alternative” Anthony Greene is set to compete at MLW Battle Riot VII this weekend, as the league confirmed him as one of the 40 participants in the titular match. Greene spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard about how his MLW debut came about, as well as what fans can expect in Los Angeles this weekend.

“I have been with Pro Wrestling NOAH for the last two-plus years. And finally, in December, my contract expired. And I was ready to move on and try something in the United States and hopefully get seen on a national level,” Greene explained. “I drove to New York City to meet with Court Bauer and MSL, just to show face at their event in New York. And that conversation got us moving. We’ve had previous conversations, but nothing ever really panned out until now.”

MLW offered the Battle Riot date, and Greene said he was going to make sure he was available for it. Matt Riddle’s MLW World Championship is on the line in the match. This gave Greene even more incentive to enter the Battle Riot match. He obviously hopes to win the match, but wants to make a good impression overall, which could have a positive impact on his future.

“There’s going to be 40 people fighting for the championship in this match,” Greene said. “I have just as good a chance as anybody else. The only person who has bad odds in this match is Matt Riddle, because he’s coming in as champion and defending it. So, it’s really one versus 39 in that situation. But if anything at all, I would like to make, as generic as it sounds, I hope to make a name for myself in this match. And have the opportunity to come back to MLW in the future and become a regular roster member for Major League Wrestling.”

Greene is just the latest wrestler from the New England area to catch on with MLW. Donovan Dijak, B3CCA, Richard Holliday and Delmi Exo are just a few of the performers who broke out on the indie scene before landing in MLW. Greene touted the region as “the heartbeat for every major wrestling company in the United States.” He also noted that timing and luck might also have something to do with it.

“I think it could be a mix of the connection of MLW to New England. It could just be that I personally think, New England puts out the best professional wrestling in the United States. And everyone wants to kinda latch onto us and grab our talents,” Greene explained. “Everything was kind of right place, right time. I think the timing was right before, when we were talking in 2021 or 2022. Especially, when I started touring with NOAH regularly. And you could call it luck. They say luck is when preparation and opportunity meet each other. So, I think this was my lucky moment to show what I offer for MLW.”

Greene also agreed that “tribalism” in wrestling can be irritating as a whole. However, it’s a little bit more about bragging rights and fun on a regional level.

“I think it’s a healthy competition. I think the West Coast guys want to be better than New England. The New England Guys want to be better than the Midwest or better than the South. So, it’s a friendly competition,” Greene noted. “Especially when we are all on the same independent wrestling level, trying to get to the same place.”

Greene touted his work in Pro Wrestling NOAH as a great preview of what to expect from him in MLW. Specifically, he pointed to his 2023 GHC Heavyweight Tag Team title defense with Jack Morris (as Good-Looking Guys) against Masa Kitamiya and Daiki Inaba as the one he’d show fans, calling it their best defense.

MLW Battle Riot VII takes place at the Thunder Studios Arena in Los Angeles on April 5.
