Antony, the new scandal

Before Antony swapped Ajax for United in August 2022 for £85 million, the winger was fined several times by the Dutch giants for reportedly missing a few training sessions and an Eredivisie match as he sought to secure the transfer. Today, Algemeen Dagblad reports that the 24-year-old has filed for arbitration, with the two sides facing off in court earlier in January.

Antony wants to defend himself

The report adds that Ajax withheld hundreds of thousands of euros from Antony’s salary while they pushed for a higher transfer fee, but now the Brazil international wants them back because he believes the fines were imposed illegally. According to AD, this dispute has been going on for two years because Antony – who was unhappy with the way Ajax treated him at the time – has still not paid these fines. Today, the Brazilian is considered one of United’s worst signings.

Since arriving at Old Trafford, Antony has scored just 12 goals and provided five assists in 94 appearances. The club are looking to offload him this month, either on loan or permanently.

As Antony and his legal team wait to hear what will happen in the fine case, he hopes to play for United at Arsenal in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.
