Anxiety has gripped residents of Osun State, especially those from Ijesaland, over the health of the Owa-Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran.

The first-class monarch, who is in his 80s and has ruled for 42 years, has reportedly been indisposed.

Sources close to the palace have confirmed his ill health but have yet to provide further details.

The unusual increase in security presence at the palace and the lack of official updates have heightened speculation and concerns among residents and well-wishers.

The monarch attended the flag-off of the construction of the Roundabout/Brewery dual carriageway in April.

A traditional chief, who spoke on condition of anonymity on Thursday, said, “At the appropriate time, journalists will be briefed.

“Baba is indisposed as you have heard. No information beyond that is immediately available. I am also not the right person to confirm it.”

Meanwhile, there was an unusually large presence of operatives of the Department of State Service and police at the palace.

When contacted for comment on the insinuations around the traditional ruler’s health, the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Chief Yinka Fasuyi, in a chat with our correspondent simply wrote, “Thanks Boladale, will get back. We are in a meeting.”

Meanwhile, reactions have begun to troop in from sons and daughters of the state and concerned citizens.

An X user, #MayorOfIjesha wrote, “Whilst we await for the official information, all fingers are crossed till further notice. Owa Obokun Adimula.”

Another user named, Herbalist with the handle #herbs_idibia, wrote, “How true is the death of the Owa Obòkun of Ilesha that’s making rounds? My Ijesha people, what’s the update about our king?”
