The All Progressives Congress has rejected the results of Wednesday’s local government election in Plateau State, where the ruling Peoples Democratic Party won all chairmanship positions across the 17 LGAs.
The Chairman of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission, Plangji Cishak, had announced the results, declaring PDP candidates victorious in all chairmanship seats.
PDP also won 285 councillorship positions, while the APC secured 14 councillorship seats, the NNPP won 1, and the YPP won 4.
However, speaking at a press conference in Jos on Saturday, the APC State Chairman, Rufus Bature, dismissed the election results as fraudulent.
He accused Governor Caleb Mutfwang of failing to deliver on his promise of a credible, free, and fair election.
“It is disappointing that Governor Mutfwang assured the people of a credible process, only for the election to fall far short of expectations,” Bature said.
He further alleged that critical electoral materials were either insufficient or missing in areas considered APC strongholds.
“Ballot papers were grossly inadequate, with some APC strongholds receiving only 10% to 20% of the required materials,” Bature lamented.
The APC chairman added that elections were disrupted in several areas, and there were reports of ballot stuffing in PDP-dominated zones and disenfranchisement of many voters.
While urging APC supporters to remain calm, he reassured them that the party would explore all legal avenues to challenge the election results and reclaim what he described as their stolen mandate.
“This election cannot stand. We will seek redress in court,” Bature stated.
