The All Progressives Congress (APC) has claimed victory in all 18 chairmanship seats in Cross River State’s local government elections, held on Saturday, November 2.
Dr. Ekong Boco, Chairman of the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC), announced the results on Sunday at the commission’s headquarters in Calabar.
The APC secured the top seats across all 18 local government areas, including prominent councils such as Abi, Odukpani, Bakassi, and Calabar South. Following the announcement, Certificates of Return were presented to the winners.
Governor Bassey Otu, in a statement congratulating the newly elected officials, described the elections as peaceful and commended the electorate for their conduct.
He expressed optimism that the new chairpersons would align with the state government’s vision and prioritize good governance.
“We have a well-defined vision for the state, and we believe the new leadership at the local government level will align with our agenda and be dedicated to delivering quality governance to the people,” Governor Otu stated.
While nine opposition parties, including the PDP and Labour Party, participated in the elections, they did not field candidates across all 196 council wards in the state’s local governments, leaving several APC candidates unopposed.
