The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has emerged victorious in the September 28, 2024, local government elections in Anambra State, sweeping all the chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state’s 21 local government areas and 326 wards.
In a press conference held on Sunday, the chairman of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), Genevieve Osakwe, confirmed APGA’s landslide victory.
She announced that the party claimed all 21 chairmanship seats and secured the 326 councillorship positions, as confirmed by the results from the wards.
Osakwe described the election process as one of the most transparent and commended the thorough efforts of the commission in collating and verifying the results to ensure their accuracy.
During her announcement, she outlined the final vote tallies for the APGA candidates, declaring them winners with the highest number of votes cast across the various wards and local government areas.
Osakwe expressed appreciation to the people of Anambra State for their active participation and commended the security agencies for their role in maintaining peace and order during the election process.
“This is to affirm the result of the chairmanship and councillorship election held on September 28, 2024. The commission carefully collated and analysed the results to ensure that there were no mistakes.
“We ensured all scores and parties were announced at the polling units yesterday. We are here, today, to affirm the results as recorded. The election held at all polling units across Anambra State on September 28 was free, fair, and credible,” Osakwe stated.
Although APGA officials and party agents were present at the ANSIEC office during the announcement, representatives from opposition political parties were notably absent when the final results were declared.
