A big Spanish club could have had the young virtuoso from Real for a pittance.

After a difficult start at Real Madrid, Arda Güler has found form in recent months. After another double against Villarreal last Sunday, the Turkish playmaker has found the net four times in the last three matches.

The young Turkish prodigy is certainly enjoying life in Madrid, but his situation could have been much more difficult.

Atlético bitterly regrets

Indeed, Atlético de Madrid almost recruited him in 2022, while he was still playing at Fenerbahçe. According to Cadena SER (via MD), the Madrid club’s executives visited Guler several times to arrange a deal that would have been worth around €5 million, but ultimately it was called off due to concerns over the fact to pay so much for the young man then aged 16.

Real Madrid can’t help but smile, as they are the ones who benefited from their rival’s uninspired decision.
