In celebration of International Hausa Day on August 26, 2024, the popular Hausa satellite TV station Arewa24 announced that its viewership had exceeded 45 million.
A statement sent to Sunday Scoop stated that since its inception, the station has been a beacon of cultural preservation, promoting the Hausa language and enriching the lives of its viewers through diverse and engaging content.
The Deputy CEO and Chief Commercial Officer of Network AREWA24 Limited, Celestine Umeibe, said, “Our station stands out for its commitment to broadcasting high-quality Hausa language programmes that reflect the values, traditions, innovations, globalisation and everyday experiences of the Hausa-speaking people across the globe.
“With popular shows like Mata A Yau, Gari Ya Waye, Zamantakewa, Jan Z among others, the station not only entertains but also educates its audience on various social issues.’’
He added that through dramas, TV series, and movies such as Dadin Kowa, Kwana Chasa’in, the station tackles important topics such as health, education, and social justice, while showcasing Hausa tradition and cultural heritage.
He added, “Our programmes serve as platforms for discussions on matters such as drug abuse, entrepreneurship, and social cohesion, thus contributing to the overall development of society.
“We also highlight the vibrant cultural activities and thriving businesses within the Hausa community, further solidifying our role as a Hausa language and cultural ambassador on the global stage.”
He also noted that in a world where languages and cultures are increasingly under threat, the station has taken a stand to ensure that the Hausa language remains vibrant and relevant.
