Ariana Grande Corrects 'Popular' Lyrics, Reveals You Might Have Been Singing The 'Wicked' Song Wrong!

Ariana Grande is setting the record straight on a lyric in one of the biggest songs from Wicked!

The 31-year-old star of the upcoming movie will be belting out the Act 1 song “Popular” in the musical film, and a new teaser of her performance was just released on Wednesday (November 13).

However, with lyrics on screen in the clip, there was one wrong lyric that the actress and singer had to correct!

While super fans likely already knew, there are others who were surprised by this revelation, but it’s always been the same since the show first debuted at the Gershwin Theater 21 years ago!

In the song, Glinda sings, “Popular, you’re gonna be popular / I’ll teach you the proper ploys when you talk to boys / Little ways to flirt and flounce, ooh! / I’ll show you what shoes to wear, how to fix your hair / Everything that really counts to be / Popular, I’ll help you be popular.”

The lyric people have been getting wrong? “I’ll teach you the proper ploys.”

Many thought, and the lyric in the Wicked movie’s teaser video says “poise,” but it’s “ploys”!

Not only did Ariana note the correction in the comments, but so did two actresses who have played Glinda on Broadway.

“it’s “ploys” !!!!!! i love you @wickedmovie,” Ariana wrote on Instagram, along with a couple emojis.

Also chiming in was Broadway’s Ginna Claire Mason, who said, “The text says POISE, but it’s PROPER PLOYS 💕💕💕,” and Jennafer Newberry, a Broadway standby and national tour Glinda, added, “Just another Glinda here to say ✨proper PLOYS💖”

Several lyric sites, and even on Spotify, has the lyric written wrong, but now you know – Glinda sings, “I’ll teach you the proper ploys,” in “Popular”!
