Ariana Grande is speaking out about her eyebrow-raising relationship with Ethan Slater.

The Yes, And? singer has been no stranger to controversy over the past year after getting into a relationship with her Wicked co-star. The issue was that Ethan seemed to be a happily married new father just weeks before reports of their romance surfaced.

At the time, the Internet went wild trying to piece together a timeline of when Ariana’s relationship with her ex-husband Dalton Gomez broke down, and the same for Ethan and his ex-wife Lilly Jay. It seemed certain even if there wasn’t egregious overlap, there must have been feelings which led to one or both of the splits. We mean, these two got together immediately. But Ari did NOT appreciate hearing everyone’s opinions on the matter. And she insists she and her man are not “evil” people.

During an interview for Vanity Fair’s cover story on Monday, the 31-year-old aired out her thoughts on the popular consensus on her relationship with Ethan:

“The most disappointing part was to see so many people believe the worst version of [our relationship]. There couldn’t be a less accurate depiction of a human being than the one that the tabloids spread about him.”

She continued:

“No one on this earth tries harder or spreads themselves thinner to be there for the people that he loves and cares about. There is no one on this earth with a better heart. And that is something that no bulls**t tabloid can rewrite in real life.”

OK, but… what is it she thinks tabloids are making up? Or getting wrong?

The man was gushing about his wife/baby momma — who was his high school sweetheart btw — on social media just two months before things went public with Ari. Then he started filming the movie with a hot pop star, and all of a sudden they were divorcing, and he was moving on. Maybe that “better heart” of his just so good it heals from heartbreak faster than most?

The Dangerous Woman crooner also defended herself, refuting the image of her as an “evil diva,” as she put it, something she says predates the Ethan relationship:

“The back-and-forth throughout the course of my career has been really hard to navigate mentally. I was this approachable, funny redhead on Nickelodeon and everyone liked me. And then I had one too many hit records, and everyone decided that I was an evil diva. And then other terrible things happened, and all of a sudden I was this hero and this victim.”

In her eyes, the media has been “trying to destroy” her for years. She told the outlet:

“Honestly, it’s taken me a lot of hard work to be able to last this long and to heal certain parts of my relationship to fame and to what I do because of these tabloids that have been trying to destroy me since I was 19 years old. But you know what? I’m 31 years old and I’m not a perfect person, but I am definitely deeply good, and I’m proud of who I’m becoming. I will never let disreputable evil tabloids ruin my life or my perception of what is real and good.”

Wow, she may as well have called this a “WITCH HUNT.” Girl, if you and a married man fell for one another, it’s always going to be problematic for a lot of folks. It goes without saying that many stars find themselves in a PR disaster or two throughout their career… But it just becomes a whole lot more difficult to shake off when there are spouses and kids involved! Look at Dave Grohl, that man enjoyed nothing but good press for like 30 years, and now… Not.

We don’t know who Ariana thinks is exaggerating anything because instead of answering the specific accusations, she’s just saying she’s being unfairly attacked. All we’re saying is, where is the lie? What is everyone getting wrong here??

What are your thoughts, Perezcious readers?? Does this move the needle on your perception of Ari? Let us know in the comments down below.
