It’s not been a vintage season for Darwin Nunez at Liverpool, and boss, Arne Slot, has acknowledged collective failings in not being able to get the striker playing his best in 2024/25.

According to transfermarkt, the Uruguayan has just four goals and four assists from his 26 appearances in all competitions so far in the current campaign.

Those figures are slightly misleading given that he’s only played for 90 minutes on six occasions, but are still not at the level expected of an elite striker.

Arne Slot hoping for return to form for Darwin Nunez

Liverpool have turned down €70m for Nunez, which suggests that the Reds are perfectly happy to keep hold of him.

Although unlikely to happen, Man United are interested in the striker, but it would be a brave move by the Liverpool board to sell to their fiercest rivals.

Slot, for all of the wonderful things that he’s done since taking over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer, has taken some sort of responsibility for the lack of output from Nunez.

Liverpool star’s exit at a ‘very advanced’ stage!

“Darwin Nunez will score goals, I’m sure. He always did it in his career,” he was quoted as saying by journalist, Fabrizio Romano, posting on X.

“Darwin is a striker we have to use in a certain way and we were not able yet to bring the best out of him this season.”

Darwin Nunez needs to find his shooting boots

The delivery of the Dutchman’s words suggests a collective responsibility, with the manager being ultimately responsible for ensuring that all of his playing staff are at the top of their game week in and week out.

From Nunez’s own point of view, he needs to find some goalscoring form quickly.

Although he firmly remains part of the international set-up at the moment, if his club form is hindering his international place, there’s every possibility that the player tries to force the issue to demand a move.
