Liverpool manager Arne Slot spoke to reporters after Liverpool’s win over Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday and revealed that one of their players is likely to miss the upcoming trip to Old Trafford.
Slot admits Curtis Jones faces a race against time to be available for Liverpool’s visit to Manchester United next weekend.
Jones suffered a minor muscle injury in training during the week which kept him out of Sunday’s game, which Liverpool won 2-0. It means they come to Old Trafford and put their 100% start to the season up to the test against their rivals.
“It’s going to be close,” Slot said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo. “It’s always difficult to see how an injury evolves during the upcoming week.
“He won’t be out for a long time but it will be close for him to be here next week. But I’m quite sure he will try to do everything to be ready for next week. It’s not a big injury.”
On the other hand, United suffered a disappointing defeat to Brighton over the weekend. A stoppage-time winner from Joao Pedro secured the three points for the Seagulls as the Reds went home empty-handed.
United fans want to see a response this week – but it feels like we asked for one of those too many times last season.
Whoever Liverpool have available next Sunday, I hope we kick them off the pitch. Jones included.
