Arsenal fans have been left shocked after learning which player is the club’s highest earner, who is pocketing £275,000 every week.

The revelation has caused somewhat of a meltdown on social media with many Gunners supporters left angry and confused.

Some fans have even called for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu to be sacked after hearing the news.

It was Arsenal transfer guru David Ornstein, speaking on The Athletic Football Podcast, who revealed that the Gunners’ top earner is surprisingly Kai Havertz.

The north Londoners raised eyebrows when they splashed out £65m to sign the Germany international this summer after three underwhelming years at Chelsea.

Arteta has attempted to mould Havertz into more of a midfielder rather than a forward since his switch to the Emirates and he produced five goals and one assist across 30 games for the north Londoners.

‘He’s on a high salary,’ Ornstein said. ‘His basic salary is in the region of £275k-a-week. That has matched what he was on at Chelsea.’

Arsenal fans have reacted to the news on X, formerly known as Twitter, with @aliftbll posting: ‘Lost the title to [Manchester] City and they thought the way to bridge that gap was to spend £65m on Kai Havertz and give him the highest salary in the squad?

‘Get Arteta and Edu out man. We’re not seeing the promised land with those two donkeys.

‘Arteta is at fault for requesting his signing [and] Edu is at fault for the fee/salary etc. They’re both at fault. Stop defending and excusing Arteta.’

Another Gunners supporter, @Sakkanel, posted: ‘No matter how you look at it. This makes no sense.

‘We are doing him a favour by trying to resurrect his career, he shouldn’t be the highest paid especially after costing 65m.

‘The least a manager should do if he is willing to spend 65m on a Chelsea flop and make him the highest paid is to at least play him in his most natural and best position to give the player a chance of justifying the outlay.’

A third Arsenal fan, @cashmoneyk11, said: ‘This manager is a joke this what dumb Arsenal fans believe is gonna make us successful buying players off names and hype when they are bang average.

‘[Emile] Smith Rowe didn’t cost us a penny and he’s way better suited in midfield then Havertz, Havertz plays left back for his country.’

@SHAURI_10, meanwhile, posted: ‘Arteta needs to be investigated, the Havertz deal smells fishy for so many reasons. If I can say what I want to say now Elon [Musk] will suspend me forever.’

A fifth Arsenal supporter, @penaldo_pionel, said: ‘Screw that, Kai needs to be sold. We are much better without Kai in the team.

‘I’m not going to be patient with a player earning more than [William] Saliba, Gabriel [Magalhaes] and [Bukayo] Saka.

‘Players are going to start asking for higher wages because of his over-inflated salary for such little return.’

Gunners fan @JKode8 posted: ‘What??????????????????????????????????? He doesn’t deserve even if he scores many goals in the future. There are players who deserve the highest salary more than Havertz.’

Another Arsenal supporter, @CircleGw81109, said: ‘Oh my god it’s like [Mesut] Ozil all over again. Why the f*** is he on so much.’

@Fionn90264031 posted: ‘OK what were they thinking, it gonna be impossible to move him on if he doesn’t work out.’

@Rjdhd90 said: ‘My head will never not spin seeing Havertz at Arsenal for the next 5/6 years.

‘275k a week we have about 10 players who can ask for that messing up our wage bill for 1 PLAYER.’

‘We could have bagged a class forward or CM for that money,’ posted @Kanobe24.

@milliamsworld said: ‘Worst thing is he’s gonna leave on a free to a s*** team in Germany at the end of his contract.’

@arsenal_deep posted: ‘That means we are stuck with him because no club will match that wage with such useless output!

‘The deal was so stupid and uncalled for well I don’t care let him stay on the bench.’
