Arsenal are interested in signing Anthony Gordon but there’s a catch over a possible transfer, as he enters fresh contract talks with Newcastle United.

The Gunners’ sporting director Edu Gaspar is a ‘big admirer’ of the England international, with the north Londoners desperate to bring in a new winger.

That’s according to reports in the Daily Mail, although there is a catch, because Gordon is set to stay at Newcastle this summer amid talks over a new deal.

That means that Arsenal won’t launch a bid before the 2024 summer transfer window closes on Friday – and will instead focus on signing him in 12 months.

Gordon has massively impressed at Newcastle since arriving from Everton in a deal worth £40m in January 2023.

The 23-year-old England international conjured up 11 goals and 10 assists across 35 Premier League games for Eddie Howe’s side last term.

He was heavily linked to Liverpool earlier in the window, which was somewhat surprising given his strong associations with their Merseyside rivals Everton.

Newcastle manager Howe was unable to rule out a possible exit for Gordon earlier this month and said: ‘I have been in the game too long to make those statements.

‘What I will say is from my part and the club’s part we will do everything we can to keep our best players – but I am not a fortune teller.’

Gordon is not the only winger Arsenal have been linked with in recent days and it is thought that the Gunners are considering a late move for Raheem Sterling.

Unlike Gordon, Arsenal would look to get that deal done before the summer transfer window closes at 11pm on Friday.

Chelsea outcast Sterling is ‘keen’ on a move to Arsenal and Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the player, feeling that he’d be a positive influence in the dressing room.

The north Londoners are also keeping tabs on Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman as an alternative option.
