Arsenal legend David Seaman wants to see two more arrivals at the Emirates this summer, believing Mikel Arteta needs another striker and right winger in his squad.

The Gunners have been thoroughly impressive over the last couple of seasons but have narrowly failed in their attempts to hunt down Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

There has not been great change at the Emirates this summer, with Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna the only major signing the club has made so far.

However, Seaman feels Arsenal need more competition up front and back-up to Bukayo Saka on the right wing, with the 22-year-old playing a huge amount of football over the last four seasons.

The former Arsenal and England star is not certain Gabriel Jesus can carry the load up front, while he feels Gabriel Martinelli is not suited to play understudy for Saka on the right flank.

‘I’d like to see some sort of backup for Saka,’ the legendary goalkeeper said on Betway’s Seaman Says podcast.

‘At the end last season we saw when Bukayo was out, [Gabriel] Martinelli went onto the right side, and he’s a right footer and it didn’t work as well because they like to show down the right and then cut inside. It didn’t work because we didn’t have cover for Saka.

‘Then the question mark’s always about a striker. Do we need a striker? Do we need a Haaland-type? There was a lot of talk with [Ivan] Toney coming, and then they were chasing another striker but that’s not worked out.

‘I think it gives different options to what they’ve got. But then, Jesus, if he has a season without injury, put him in the box and he’s one of the best. He really is one of the best, he’s so calm.

‘City did it without a striker before Haaland and that’s what Mikel’s probably looking at.

‘I’d like to see a striker and a backup for Bukayo. Midfield, for me seems OK. I think [Thomas] Partey is going to be staying now, because there was talk of him leaving. He needs a long, injury-free season as well.’

The Gunners get their latest Premier League campaign underway on Saturday against Wolves at 3pm at the Emirates.
