Arsenal have made an approach for Barcelona prospect Mikayil Faye, the teenage defender who is on the radar of big clubs across Europe.
The 19-year-old joined Barca from Croatian side Kustošija in 2023 and is yet to make a first team appearance, but has made his international debut for Senegal.
The centre-back, who can also play at left-back, may not have broken through into the first team under Xavi, but he has grabbed the attention of plenty of other managers and scouts.
Manchester United, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen have all been credited with an interest in the defender.
The Daily Mail report that Arsenal have gone one step further, though, and made an enquiry to Barcelona ahead of a potential move this summer.
The teenager has been rated at £17m, which could prove to be a bargain price if he goes on to fulfil the potential he is believed to have, but also a tempting amount for Barcelona to accept for a player who is yet to appear for them.
The Catalan giants are still in a perilous financial position and will need to bring in funds this summer.
Speaking about Faye’s potential, Barca boss Xavi said: ‘He has already played in some friendly matches.
‘He is a capable footballer, he is aggressive, he is fast, he can get the ball out well. He could help us at some point. He has the level, without a doubt.’
Arsenal are believed to be looking to strengthen at centre-back and left-back this summer, so Faye would help solve both problems, although Mikel Arteta will likely be looking for a more experienced option as well.
