Arriving in the last hours of the summer transfer window from Real Sociedad for €32 million, Mikel Merino had a very complicated start. The midfielder, European champion with Spain, was unable to play his first minutes with the Gunners because he was injured in training. “It’s a real shame. Yesterday there was a collision and he injured his shoulder.”explained Mikel Arteta. A fracture in the shoulder was mentioned and his absence duration is now known.

According to the Daily Mailthe 28-year-old Spanish midfielder is expected to be out for around two months with a fractured shoulder and is not expected to return until mid-October. It is a blow for the new signing who was involved in a collision in training with his central defender, Gabriel Magalhaes. He could be fit after the October international break, but will miss his new club’s Champions League debut.
