Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey’s future will be decided later, with no discussions going on at the moment after an uncertain summer transfer window.
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano as he spoke exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, with the Italian journalist attempting to explain what really went on with Partey over the summer.
The Ghana international has been a key player for the Gunners, but he’s in the final year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium now, and it remains to be seen if he’ll be at the club for much longer as there may be a desire to cash in on him while they still can in January.
Partey still seems to be a key part of Mikel Arteta’s first-team plans for now, but the arrival of Mikel Merino this summer could limit his playing time at some point, though Romano seems certain that a decision won’t be made now.
Thomas Partey in action for ArsenalWe’ll see closer to the time what happens with Partey in January, but it seems there also weren’t any really concrete talks over the former Atletico Madrid man leaving this summer.
Partey transfer situation explained by Romano
“Thomas Partey ended up staying at Arsenal this summer, despite it looking at one point like his future could be in doubt. Some fans have asked me about his situation again for January as he’ll be out of contract next summer,” Romano said.
“For now my information is that no discussions have taken place about that, sources on both sides guarantee that they’ve not decided. It was quiet summer for Partey, who was never actually in talks to leave.

“The full focus now is on this season and then they will decide on the future.”
Partey could surely be a tempting option for a lot of top clubs around Europe and elsewhere, but for now it’s not clear who could be moving for him.
