Arsenal, Tottenham and Real Madrid target Joan Garcia’s €25 million release clause will rise soon.

Joan Garcia had an exceptional end to the 2023/24 season with Espanyol. His performances helped them secure promotion to the Spanish top flight and it has also put him on the radar of multiple top clubs from across Europe.

According to Mundo Deportivo via SportWitness, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Tottenham are strong suitors for the 23-year-old shot-stopper who featured in 21 matches for Espanyol last season and kept a clean sheet in 12 of those fixtures. He got an extended run in the first team and didn’t disappoint as he only conceded 10 goals in those outings.

With four years still left on his deal, Espanyol have no intentions of negotiating anything lower than his €25 million release clause. While the current price tag might not be that big a problem for any of the three interested clubs, they do need to hurry as it could rise to €35 million in less than a month.

His release clause will rise to €30 million from the 15th of August and it could go up another €5 million if he gets called up to the Spanish senior team for the first international break that will take place in September. Luis de la Fuente will announce the squad in August and with Unai Simon out injured, there are chances of Garcia getting called up. As a result, the asking price could go up to €35 million in a month’s time.

Arsenal are looking for a backup shot-stopper who can provide cover for David Raya with Aaron Ramsdale expected to leave the club. Meanwhile, Real Madrid are also in a similar situation with Andriy Lunin’s future at the club uncertain. If the Ukrainian goalkeeper leaves, they will need a new backup.

As far as Tottenham are concerned, they want more competition in the goalkeeping position and feel Garcia could challenge Guglielmo Vicario for a place in the starting XI. While all three clubs are keen on signing the 23-year-old who is currently on international duty with Spain at the Olympics, they do need to hurry as his price tag could take a significant jump in a few weeks.
