Arsenal are ‘unlikely’ to pay £80m to sign Pedro Neto from Wolves in the summer transfer window in a boost to their north London rivals Tottenham.
Both clubs are in a race for the Portugal international but Gary O’Neil’s side are desperate to keep Neto at Molineux and have slapped a hefty price tag on him.
It was thought that a figure in excess of £53m would be enough to land the winger but Wolves are now adamant Neto will not be sold for under £80m.
Neto, who has been on Arsenal’s radar for several years, is under contract until 2027 but Wolves may be forced into a summer sale due to financial rules.
Neto, who has also attracted interest from Manchester City and Newcastle United, has conjured up nine assists and two goals across 17 top-flight matches this term.
Arsenal’s hopes of landing the 23-year-old’s signature have taken a hit, though, with The Athletic reporting that the Gunners are unlikely to pay out £80m for him.
Neto ‘remains of interest’ to Arsenal, though, suggesting that they may reconsider a move if Wolves decide to drop his price tag.
Arsenal are keen to sign a new out-and-out winger as well as a central midfielder at the end of the season.
The Gunners’ No.1 priority is to recruit a striker – which they failed to do January – and they have a four-man list amid concerns over Gabriel Jesus’ injury record.
Arsenal want to strengthen in two other areas, though, and they are seeking a winger to supplement Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.
